Gregory Reid Wiseman is an accomplished American astronaut, engineer, and naval aviator who has made significant contributions to space exploration and was born on November 11, 1975, Wiseman was selected as a member of NASA’s Astronaut Group 20 in June 2009 and qualified as an astronaut in 2011.
He served as the Deputy Chief of the Astronaut Office from June 2017, working under Chief Astronaut Patrick Forrester. On December 18, 2020, he was promoted to Chief of the Astronaut Office at NASA, a position he held until November 14, 2022.
His impressive career began as a Naval Aviator and test pilot before joining NASA and participated in his first spaceflight as part of the crew of Expedition 40/41, which launched to the International Space Station on May 28, 2014, and returned on November 10, 2014.
He has an educational background in computer and systems engineering, having earned his degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He later obtained a master’s degree in systems engineering from Baltimore’s Johns Hopkins University in 2006.
